Bridal Beauty – Microdermabrasion

Now, listen, I’m not a first-time bride. No, I was married at just age 24 the first-time round. Now, I’ve met the REAL man of my dreams (and found the real me), had his son, emigrated to his country and am still enjoying our whirlwind romance (in fact I hope it never stops), I am approaching our wedding completely differently. I’m more relaxed, and want to enjoy the moments rather than stressing about them. That said, if there’s one day in your life that you want clear, smooth, glowing skin, it’s your wedding day. And if there’s one time in your life when you’re probably stressed AF, it’s the weeks leading up to your wedding day.

Beauty experts recommend a bride start thinking about her beauty regimen at least six months before the big day. It’s enough time to experiment with certain treatments you might not have had the guts (or the funds) to try and get over any adverse effects before you take your wedding photos. It’s also plenty of time to see amazing results from treatments that need a few months and multiple sessions to work. And I’d agree with them. But, honestly, with a new baby, a broken ankle, and not knowing where to go in Adelaide for my bridal beauty prep, I just haven’t had six months!

I have, however, found my miracle worker – microdermabrasion. I’ve heard about it, but never had it. At 36 years of age and with skin problems like acne flare-ups and dark undereye circles, no doubt caused by the demanding and sleep-deprived life of motherhood, I decided to give it a go before my big day.

I chose to go to Australian Skin Clinic at the Marion Shopping Centre, mainly because it is just so convenient for me, and because the staff are so helpful and informative. I explained to one of the receptionists that I wanted to look beautiful as a bride, but was feeling anything but, and she recommended microdermabrasion – a non-surgical method of rejuvenation to help restore younger looking skin. Yes!! That is what I needed.

Debbie was my beauty therapist and she was fantastic. She was so experienced and helped me understand every step of the process. She started with a skin analysis using an ultra-violet light. Mine wasn’t too bad, but it did show up areas of dehydration and some sun damage.

I was really worried that, because my skin is so fair, I would find the procedure painful, but honestly, I didn’t at all. And although I was told it may be sensitive a few days later, it really wasn’t. Debbie cleansed my skin and used a mask to ensure optimum results. She used a diamond-tip hand device to gently loosen and exfoliate dead skin cells.  I found the whole thing totally relaxing, comfortable and enjoyable.

Microdermabrasion exfoliates the dead skin, which stimulates collagen growth for healthier looking skin that also feels smoother. Additionally, as we grow older our skin regenerates more slowly, so mechanically removing the top layers is one way to speed up collagen production.

Now what I really liked, was at Australian Skin Clinic, the microdermabrasion facial was not the end of it. Debbie sat with me again at the end of the procedure, and gave me a ‘menu’ of skincare products from the Skinstitute range that she advised would help my skin feel nourished and solve the problem areas such as acne and oiliness. There was a great offer on for 5 products, so I went back a week later and bought cleansers and moisturisers and a sunscreen, which have really helped me manage my skin at home. I can see the difference already, and it costs no more than the Shiseido product I was buying from Myer.

I went to bed with shiny, tight feeling skin and I woke up feeling like a new woman. Honestly, my skin felt so good and it was positively glowing the next day, the dark circles under my eyes has almost vanished, and it lasted at least 2-3 weeks!

Anyway, from my one microdermabrasion, I’m hooked! I’ve changed up my own skincare routine for the better, and I’ve promised myself that even after the wedding, I am going to maintain a once a month appointment. I discussed with Debbie some acne scarring which I’m conscious of, and she suggested fractional combined with microdermabrasion could have the best results. So, I’ll let you know if I try it!

The main thing is that I was glowing with confidence on my wedding day. I felt fabulous. And the microdermabrasion had left my make-up artist (Bridie) a perfect canvas to create her masterpiece!

Seriously, check it out for any special occasion or if you want to shake up your skin routine and feel super fresh. This procedure is ideal for anyone seeking a means to reduce the appearance of fine lines, scars and wrinkles, sun damaged and uneven skin tone, acne prone skin, whiteheads, blackheads, superficial age spots and hyperpigmentation and excessive oiliness or dry skin.
